The application dictates the choice of sheath materials. 304SS and 316SS are most commonly used but temperatures and corrosive conditions can necessitate the use of other materials.

The Mineral Insulated thermocouples come in a number of sizes but the choice is greatly influenced by the maximum temperature of the application. For high temp applications bigger is better.
7. Sheath Length "L"

Although the accuracy of the thermocouple is not affected by the length of the sheath consult the factory when the probe length exceeds 120 inches.
